ISO certification for Al Jazeera - 15 Jun 2009
DOHA: The Quality Management System of Al Jazeera Network Purchasing and Contracts Department has been officially awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification, making it the first purchasing department in Qatar and probably the first in the broadcast industry in the Middle East to achieve this distinction.
“This achievement means a lot to us and the management is very happy after all the hard work. With the quality implementation of our system we aim to be one of the models of purchasing departments in Qatar,” said Mohammed J Al Mohannadi, Manager of Purchasing and Contracts Department.
Handling the complete procurement for all channels and offices of Al Jazeera around the world with such urgency being a broadcasting organisation is a major challenge for the department but with the collaborative effort from the top management to the employees, they were able to successfully perform their role further developing a Quality Management System.
Pandra Sudhir, Regional Manager of Velosi, Middle East, presented the ISO certification to Al Mohannadi during a function at the Al Jazeera Network Support and Services premises.
Velosi, a leading international third party inspection and certification organization, carried out the certification under the aegis of their certification body Velosi Certification Bureau Ltd.
“The top management has strong commitment to implement the system and they have a team of employees passionate to carry out the system, that’s the key to success of Al Jazeera Network Purchasing and Contracts Department,” Sudhir commented.
“The certification ensures continued improvement of the system which will ultimately best satisfy their end-users,” said Sudhir.
Another progress in their system is the soon-to-be implemented e-Registration and e-Procurement projects which are set to make transactions easier.
“It will save time and cost for Al Jazeera and the other party. If we have a system like this and of course with a certified quality procedure, more companies will be attracted to Al Jazeera and that means we will have better competition environment which is one of the aims of our project,” said Abdul Akbar Vengasseri, Project Manager.
